Today’s Leaders Meet Future Leaders
Samavesh in Hindi means "assimilation", is the annual conclave organised by the participants of SPJIMR's Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). Samavesh brings together industry and academia to discuss contemporary business issues and address some of the important questions prevailing in today’s business environment.
Business leaders from various domains share their experiences with the academicians and students on various current trends and discuss the evolving business landscape.
Over the years, Samavesh has grown to become an important annual event in the SPJIMR calendar. The conclave has witnessed distinguished business leaders across domains visit the SPJIMR campus and share their insights into real world business problems.
In 2018, Samavesh was held on May 18 and 19, at the SPJIMR campus
Theory Meets Practice
Industry interactions are an integral part of SPJIMR's pedagogy wherein participants regularly interact with leading professionals to stay current with the ongoing trends and developments in the corporate world. Senior leaders and experts from various industries are invited to share their domain knowledge through guest lecture series and workshops. This is an opportunity for the participants to break through the routine of classroom sessions and to exchange information as well as network with senior industry professionals.
Course of Independent Study (CIS) is a unique and unconventional method of industry engagement along with academia. It represents an opportunity for the participant to explore a topic in depth in his area of special interest by working as a consultant on a project or an assignment with the industry. It makes possible the integration of several fields of study in searching for the solution for a real time industry problem/project. For an empirical work, it provides valuable experience in the research process in the definition of a problem, in the search for relevant data, in the analysis of the data and in deriving the conclusions and implications of the data for the problem under study.
CIS provides participants with a unique opportunity to augment the domain based knowledge that consolidates on the participant’s work experience along with the learning from the programme.
Participants work closely with the industry in solving real-time problems, thereby getting a new perspective on business practices.
Coffee with the PGPM alumni is set as an informal mentoring platform, which brings together the current participants and alumni for a purposeful and rewarding discussion session.
The alumni provide counselling support, job search advice, interview tips, case study pointers and career guidance to the participants, based on their unique experience and skills. Sharing of knowledge keeps the participants connected to the innovation that defines SPJIMR, and plays a crucial role in building a dynamic and enduring community.
Such CoPAL sessions have been a big morale booster for the participants, especially for placements preparations.
PGPM students at SPJIMR work on various Live Industry Projects in the areas of Information Management, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Marketing and Finance. Even though the students come with work experience of 5+ years, live projects help them broaden their perspective and understanding in a domain different from what they might have worked in the past.
The industry projects vary in scope and topics and may involve collecting, analysing and interpreting data on people, processes, strategies or markets. While doing this, we expect the students to learn about business issues of the company and put their theoretical learnings into practice. It is encouraged that the live project have a business problem orientation rather than a pure research orientation.
Normally, these projects do not involve regular office visits and are done remotely. Students work individually or in teams of 2-4 depending on the requirement of the project. It is ensured that students with most relevant profiles opt for these projects.
