Wise Innovation Studio for Emerging Technologies (WISE Tech)

Society’s grand challenges need innovative and entrepreneurial responses, but such innovation needs to be wise – done for the right reasons and in the right way. The Wise Innovation Studio for Emerging Technologies (WISE Tech) brings together a diverse group of innovators who share an interest in developing and responsibly deploying new technology-based solutions to create a net positive impact on our society and planet.

The WISE Tech community includes rising tech entrepreneurs, emerging SPJIMR student and alumni entrepreneurs, corporate innovators, investors, CSR leaders looking to leverage emerging tech for greater corporate impact, and academics who work on responsible, sustainable and ethical aspects of innovation. WISE Tech’s goal is to be the knowledge and community hub for all matters related to tech-based wise innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • Sunil Bhatia Start-up Resource Hub

The Sunil Bhatia Start-up Resource Hub supports India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by providing networking and learning resources for early stage entrepreneurs. The Hub brings together a vibrant community of educators, subject matter experts (SMEs), mentors, corporate leaders and founders. It curates and creates learning resources, and organises bootcamps, workshops, masterclasses, and other networking events for entrepreneurs. Additionally, the Hub also plans to extend its activities to directly work with India’s many incubators, thereby multiplying its impact on the ecosystem. The Hub is funded through a generous endowment from Sunil Bhatia, PGDM 1989 alum and former CEO of Infogain.

  • Accelerators

WISE Tech houses two accelerators for wise innovation – FinNovate for ‘responsible finance’ start-ups, and EarthLab for start-ups focused on sustainability themes. We take in approximately 30 start-ups yearly and work closely with them to accelerate them to the next stage of their funding and growth. We select and onboard companies that have created a minimum viable product, acquired their first customer and are grappling with improving their product-market fit. The selected companies go through a structured four-month curriculum in small cohorts, work with senior industry mentors, get access to potential customers and market partners, and present to investors.

Currently, the second FinNovate cohort is in session. The selection process for the first EarthLab cohort begins in August 2024.

  • Emerging Entrepreneur in Residence Fellowship Programme (EEIR)

The EEIR programme focuses on early-stage entrepreneurs at the ‘idea stage’ – those who have not yet developed their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or acquired customers. Annually, we plan to take in up to 10 entrepreneurs and guide them in transforming their ideas into viable start-ups that will generate a net positive impact on the economy, society and the environment. The EEIR initiative supports entrepreneurs with a stipend and resources drawn from the Sunil Bhatia Start-Up Resource Hub and from other SPJIMR resources over a 12-18 month period to build an MVP and validate customer interest. These entrepreneurs could be SPJIMR students who opt out of their placement process, SPJIMR alumni who wish to transition from their corporate roles as well as deserving candidates from outside the SPJIMR fraternity. EEIR graduates are expected to raise meaningful seed funding after graduation.

The first EEIR cohort will commence in April 2025.
