SPJIMR faculty case wins fifth place in Ivey IWIL Competition 2026

15 October 2026

A case study co-authored by SPJIMR’s Vineeta Dwivedi, Associate Professor, Organisation and Leadership Studies, and Anupama Gupta, Associate Professor, Operations, Supply Chain Management and Quantitative Methods, has secured fifth place in the 2026 Ivey Women Investing in Leadership (IWIL) Case Writing Competition, organised by Ivey Publishing, a global leader in publishing and distributing business case studies.

Titled Eri Weave: A Schoolteacher’s Entrepreneurial Dilemma, the case examines the entrepreneurial journey of Iaishah Rymbai, from Meghalaya, India. It explores the challenges she faces in balancing family responsibilities and financial security with her ambition to revive a traditional Erisilk weaving practice and create livelihoods for rural women.

The case brings a real-world leadership dilemma into the management classroom, inviting students to examine the complex decisions women entrepreneurs make when personal responsibilities, financial stability and business aspirations compete for attention.

Reflecting on the case development process, the authors said: “When we came across Iaishah’s story, we knew immediately that hers was a story worth bringing into the management classroom, particularly because her entrepreneurial journey was still unfolding. A single mother navigating the competing demands of family responsibilities, financial security, and entrepreneurial aspirations, Iaishah embodies a leadership journey that is both inspiring and deeply relatable. Her determination to revive a fading weaving tradition, create livelihoods for rural women, and mobilise resources to grow her venture reflects a remarkable combination of courage, resilience, and purpose. When she read our draft case, her heartfelt words, ‘Thank you for putting the story so beautifully,’ made the entire experience especially meaningful
for us.

Winning the Ivey Women Investing in Leadership Case Writing Competition is a moment of immense pride and fulfilment for both of us. Beyond the international recognition, this achievement holds special significance for us as it reflects SPJIMR’s mission of promoting value-based growth and its vision of being an innovative and socially conscious management school.”

Advancing women’s representation in management education

The 2026 IWIL Case Writing Competition attracted 78 case submissions from 157 contributors, covering business challenges across 19 countries. The authors represented eight countries and 50 institutions and organisations, reflecting international interest in strengthening women’s representation in business education.

Launched in 2025, the competition recognises teaching cases that bring women’s leadership experiences, diverse perspectives and meaningful decision-making challenges into the classroom. The winning cases were selected through multiple rounds of evaluation, including a double-blind review by a judging panel and an assessment by Ivey Publishing’s Product & Publishing team.

Each winning submission receives a cash prize and a certificate, along with publication in the Ivey Publishing catalogue, making the cases available to educators and students worldwide.

Through cases such as Eri Weave: A Schoolteacher’s Entrepreneurial Dilemma, SPJIMR faculty contribute to management education that connects business decisions with lived experiences, social contexts and the complexities of responsible leadership. The case also brings attention to women entrepreneurs whose experiences can offer valuable insights into entrepreneurship, inclusive growth and leadership under competing demands.
