Aasra 2025: Building inclusive sensibilities

January 19, 2025

The SPJIMR Mumbai campus was immersed in an atmosphere of inclusivity, resilience, and joy, brought to life by Aasra 2025 on January 19, 2025. Prof. Chandrika Parmar, Director, SPJIMR Development of Corporate Citizenship (DoCC), inaugurated the annual Aasra event organised by the SPJIMR DoCC to promote inclusive sensibilities. Aasra 2025 welcomed 14 NGOs and over 275 participants, including individuals with disabilities, their families and caregivers, and senior citizens, to celebrate life through sports and cultural activities.

The event commenced with a series of engaging sports activities that fostered a spirit of competition and camaraderie among the participants. Events such as dodgeball, the lemon spoon race, balloon tapping, and the 50m relay race, as well as specially designed activities for senior citizens, highlighted the power of adaptability and teamwork. The sight of participants cheering one another on was a powerful reminder that with a sporting spirit and determination, one can overcome any challenge.

Following the sports events, the audience was treated to a variety of captivating cultural performances, ranging from traditional folk dances to contemporary routines and musical renditions. Each performance was delivered with passion and creativity, highlighting that, given the right opportunity talent flourishes in a conducive forum. Aasra 2025 provided a platform to inspire mutual understanding and respect and to forge enduring connections.

The success of the event was largely due to the tireless efforts of the DoCC team, the student committee, and volunteers from SPJIMR, who worked diligently to ensure that every participant felt valued and celebrated. The smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations that filled the air were a testament to the event’s success in nurturing a sense of community and belonging.
