SPJIMR-POMS India Chapter Conference
More than 100 delegates, faculty members, industry professionals and operations management experts came together on the SPJIMR campus for the SPJIMR-POMS India Chapter Conference on Friday, July 29, 2016.
Friday was the first day of the two-day conference on "Big Data Analytics for Optimising Supply Chains" that would see more than 80 papers being presented by participants coming in from premier national and international institutes.
“There has been a huge response from industry practitioners with about 20 presentations lined up,” said Programme Chair and SPJIMR Professor Dr. Sajeev George.
Added SPJIMR Professor and Conference Co-Chair Dr. Anil Vaidya, “Different disciplines like Big Data, Analytics and Supply Chain came together and were seamlessly discussed at the conference today. We are delighted at the response.”
Professor Oscar D’Souza of SPJIMR, who presented a paper at the conference, said, “It was a great event … a good beginning with a theme that was contemporary and proceedings that were insightful.” Several SPJIMR faculty members, including Dr. Jyoti Jagasia, Dr. Sarabjeet Netesan, Prof. Aditi Devatia and Dr. Arunima Haldar, presented at the conference.
The conference began with the lighting of the lamp and an inaugural address by SPJIMR Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee. In the preliminary session, keynote speaker Dr. K.K. Sinha from the University of Minnesota spoke on: "Problem Driven, Theoretically Grounded Empiricism: Adventures with Big Data and Reflections".
Professor R. Sridharan, who is an international visiting faculty at SPJIMR, found the panel discussion to be invigorating. “The theme of the conference is relevant, current and significant for both practitioners and academia,” he said.
