Family Friday with Mr. Sumeet Kabra

April 23, 2026

The classroom was filled with anticipation as PGPFMB Batch 39 prepared for a session with Mr. Sumeet Kabra, one that promised more than just business strategy. Mr. Kabra, Executive Director at RR Shramik, is a PGPFMB Batch 10 alumnus and has spent more than 15 years navigating the complexities of family businesses. Rather than focusing solely on balance sheets, Mr. Kabra offered an honest look at the courage required to reimagine tradition while building successful new ventures alongside a legacy enterprise.

This session was part of the programme’s signature initiative – Family Friday, which brought students face-to-face with accomplished alumni who are active contributors to the industry. These interactions offer real-world insights and lived experiences that are often missing from standard textbooks. With a background in both engineering and management, Mr. Kabra has been instrumental in scaling the consumer division of RR Kabel while simultaneously diversifying into sectors ranging from LED lighting and electric scooters to LiFi technology and even premium chocolates.

One of the core topics of his discussion was the critical role of family dynamics. He emphasised to the participants that the true strength of a family business is rooted in how the family functions off the table, not just on it. He shared his conviction that regular family meetings are a necessity rather than a formality. These meetings serve to align the family vision, resolve conflicts, and make collective decisions.

Mr. Kabra also spoke at length about the importance of keeping employees happy and engaged. He noted that success comes from ensuring that team members are genuinely aligned with the company’s vision and values. When employees understand the larger purpose behind their work, they transition from mere workers to true stakeholders in the business’s success. His own journey of diversification across multiple brands, including Arraystorm, BGauss, and Cacao Springs, reflects a belief that growth comes to those willing to think beyond traditional boundaries.

His motto, that success is the result of constant innovation and the ability to deal with change, served as a powerful reminder for the next generation of leaders. He concluded by noting that entrepreneurship is fundamentally about people and relationships as much as it is about profit. To honour his contribution and the wisdom he shared, the batch presented him with a handcrafted token, created by a Sashakt participant, representing the spirit of Ubuntu: ‘I am because we are’. It was a session that left the participants with practical lessons and a roadmap for their own entrepreneurial paths.

Sashakt is a CFBE initiative specifically designed to support entrepreneurs from low-income backgrounds in growing their businesses and fostering economic resilience.

‘Family Friday’ is a signature PGPFMB initiative that brings students face-to-face with alumni who are active contributors to the industry and the family business ecosystem. These structured interactions offer real-world insights, lived experiences, and practical wisdom that textbooks often miss.
