Developing research for publication in top OSCM journals

What does it take to publish in a leading Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) journal?
The Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM) Paper Development Workshop (PDW) 2026, hosted by SPJIMR, provided researchers with direct editorial guidance to strengthen their manuscripts and prepare them for publication. The two-day workshop brought together faculty members, doctoral scholars and researchers for paper development sessions and editorial masterclasses.
The workshop featured JSCM editorial leadership, including Dr. Hannah Stolze, Co-editor-in-chief, Dr. Wendy L. Tate, Emeritus Editor-in-chief, Dr. T.T. Niranjan, Regional Editor (South Asia), and Dr. Sriram Narayanan, who facilitated one of the online editorial sessions. The workshop was organised by Prof. Sheila Roy, Chairperson, Office of Research and Innovation (ORI), SPJIMR, and Prof. Mukesh Kripalani, Professor of Operations, Supply Chain Management and Quantitative Methods, SPJIMR. Dr. Niranjan played a key role in bringing the JSCM Paper Development Workshop to SPJIMR.
The workshop drew a large pool of submissions — empirical papers grounded in theory across supply chain contexts. Following a review process, 15 papers were selected for development. Before the workshop, authors received written feedback from the editorial team, revised their manuscripts, and presented them during dedicated feedback sessions. The discussions focused on strengthening theoretical contributions, research design and the overall quality of the papers.
In addition to the paper development sessions, the editorial team conducted masterclasses on publishing in top OSCM journals, theory development, writing effective introductions, and the use of neuroscience and experimental research in operations and supply chain management.
The workshop gave participants an opportunity to engage directly with editors and peers, discuss their research, and gain practical insights into the publication process. The participants’ collective feedback highlights that the workshop functioned as a high-impact research incubator, driving academic growth through three core elements:
- Clarifying journal expectations: Participants gained direct clarity on top-tier journal requirements, stripping away the guesswork of what editors look for in successful submissions.
- Actionable, diverse feedback: Editors provided rigorous, constructive, and receptive critiques across a wide spectrum of topics, giving authors practical pathways to improve their papers.
- Interdisciplinary inspiration: Exposure to different managerial disciplines and eminent scholars broke down research silos, leaving attendees with fresh perspectives, new ideas, and renewed momentum for their work.
In her LinkedIn post, Hannah Stolze, JSCM Co-editor-in-chief, applauded the event’s high academic standard and commented, “The quality of the work, the depth of the questions, and the generosity of the feedback exchanged were a testament to what makes this community special.” She added that such events serve as a powerful reminder that JSCM is a truly global community, uniting scholars across continents and career stages through a shared passion for rigorous supply chain management research.
