To prepare future leaders to navigate change and understand its wider impact on people, communities and society, SPJIMR takes learning beyond the classroom. Through its Initiatives and Centres of Practice (CoP), the Institute engages with diverse communities, from grassroots and rural organisations to urban and corporate communities.
Our societal impact initiatives focus on empowering underserved members of our local community in the K-West ward (Andheri West, Mumbai) through Abhyudaya and engaging with the social sector at the grassroots level through Development of Corporate Citizenship (DoCC).
Each SPJIMR Centre aims to strengthen the managerial practices of a specific professional community. Centres undertake research on key topics, facilitate knowledge sharing and community building, and provide specialised training and consulting. They also offer SPJIMR participants hands-on opportunities to engage with these communities, apply their learning, and contributing to their development.

Know moreAbhyudaya, SPJIMR’s award-winning community-based initiative, provides mentoring and holistic after-school education to bright, underserved children (Sitaras = Stars), from low-income neighbourhoods in Mumbai’s K-West ward. The programme supports children in becoming independent while strengthening the schools and communities around them.

Know moreDevelopment of Corporate Citizenship (DoCC) at SPJIMR is rooted in the belief that management education must remain deeply connected to the society it serves. What began as a rural internship initiative has evolved into a wider ecosystem of collaboration. Today it brings together civil society organisations, corporates, academic institutions, research scholars and alumni to engage with grassroots communities and understand the realities they face.

Centre for Family Business and Entrepreneurship (CFBE)SPJIMR’s Centre for Family Business and Entrepreneurship (CFBE) aims to promote an entrepreneurial mindset and catalyse the sustainable growth of family business and community entrepreneurship ecosystems. CFBE provides family business leaders with the skills, ecosystem network, global outlook, and mindset required to pursue business growth while sustaining family values.
CFBE offers a specialised Post Graduate Programme in Family Managed Business (PGPFMB) (offered since 1997 with more than 4,000 graduates) and programmes in entrepreneurship, and hosts a range of networking and funding events. The Centre works with international researchers and publishes white papers on key issues facing Indian family businesses and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Know moreInspired by SPJIMR’s mission of value-based growth, the Centre for Wisdom in Leadership (CWIL) seeks to enhance conventional leadership development approaches used by corporate learning and development professionals by integrating wisdom traditions from the East and West. The Centre is part of a global network of leadership and wisdom centres, scholars, and practitioners. CWIL co-creates and disseminates new perspectives through blog articles, podcasts, training modules, retreats, and conferences.

Wise Innovation Studio for Emerging Technologies (WISE Tech)
Know moreWISE Tech is SPJIMR’s knowledge and community hub on tech-driven ‘wise innovation’ for sustainable businesses. It brings together entrepreneurs, investors, corporates, academics, students and other innovators committed to developing and responsibly deploying technology solutions that positively impact society and the planet.
Its work spans the start-up ecosystem through the Sunil Bhatia Start-up Hub, accelerators and nationwide pitchathons, which connect founders with mentors, investors and other ecosystem partners. These engagements also provide opportunities for SPJIMR students to interact with start-up communities, work on real-world challenges and learn from practitioners.
Across its initiatives, WISE Tech promotes innovation that is responsible, sustainable and ethical, with a focus on using technology to create meaningful societal and environmental impact.
