SPJIMR professors Sajeev A. George and Debmallya Chatterjee have been elected to the prestigious Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) India Chapter Board for 2023 & 2024. SPJIMR Programme Chair Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM),  PGDM (Business Management) and Faculty, Department of Operations, Supply Chain Management & Quantitative Methods, Prof. Sajeev A. George will serve as the President of the India Chapter Board. SPJIMR Department Chair, Operations, Supply Chain Management & Quantitative Methods and Programme Chair Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Online, Prof. Debmallya Chatterjee is the elected Vice-President at Large 2.

Established in 1989, the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) is a global society for academics and practitioners from production management, operation management and supply chain management. The mission of POMS is to create, extend, and disseminate knowledge in production and operations management.

Commenting on his appointment, Prof. George, said, “POMS is a great international organisation representing the interests of the Production and Operations Management community from around the world, and I take it as an honour and privilege to serve as the President of the India Chapter”. In his new role, he plans to collaborate and find ways to effectively serve the POMS community in India with a focus on their professional development and career advancement. His agenda for the next two years is to improve the board’s outreach by involving the larger community of faculty, researchers, students, and industry practitioners. We plan to continue our efforts to organise conferences, workshops, and other such events to help professionals connect with one another and develop their teaching and research capabilities.

Previously in 2016 and 2021, SPJIMR successfully hosted the POMS India International Conference at its Mumbai campus. Prof. George highlights that the main objective of POMS is to provide a forum for knowledge-sharing, exchange of ideas, research collaboration, improving instructional pedagogy and curriculum, and sharing best practices among the POMS community in India and abroad. This strongly resonates with SPJIMR’s commitment to increase its impact through teaching, research and community engagements.
