Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
Overview
This course teaches how investors select stocks and construct portfolios that balance risk and return. It moves from security analysis and stock valuation to portfolio mathematics, portfolio optimisation and asset pricing. It concludes with asset allocation, rebalancing and performance evaluation, so you can build, monitor and assess an equity portfolio end to end.
Key highlights
- Stock selection: analyse companies qualitatively and quantitatively, and apply economy, industry and company (E-I-C) indicators, investing styles and screening criteria.
- Equity valuation: value stocks using discounted cash flow (DCF) and dividend discount models, and relative valuation based on the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, including justified P/E.
- Portfolio mathematics: measure return and risk, generate inputs and see how correlation drives diversification.
- Portfolio optimisation: build the efficient frontier, identify optimal portfolios and extend the analysis with the capital allocation line (CAL), capital market line (CML), single index model and capital asset pricing model (CAPM).
- Asset allocation and performance: apply allocation and rebalancing strategies, and evaluate portfolios with risk-adjusted, benchmark-relative and drawdown metrics.
