SPJIMR, in collaboration with Ivey Publishing, hosted the Case Writing Workshop 2025, a three-day engagement designed to strengthen case-based learning and support educators in developing cases that contribute meaningfully to management practice. The initiative reflects SPJIMR’s commitment to advancing practitioner-orientated pedagogy and building a strong ecosystem for high-quality case creation.
The workshop opened with reflections from SPJIMR Dean Varun Nagaraj on how case writing continues to shape managerial thinking and decision-making. Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged with best practices in structure, analysis, teaching notes, and the publication process, gaining clarity on how to convert ideas into well-crafted, practitioner-orientated cases.
A panel discussion on ‘Case Method in Action: Preparing Leaders for the Future of Work’ brought together faculty members Prof. Malay Krishna, Prof. Monika Gupta, Prof. Shabbirhusain RV, and Prof. Amol Dhaigude, moderated by Violetta Gallagher, Product and Publishing Director, Ivey Publishing. The conversation explored emerging themes in the Indian management landscape, the shifting expectations of the future workplace, and the elements that make a case pedagogically strong, contextually relevant, and globally applicable.
Gallagher noted, “Sitting on a panel with bestselling authors and hearing their case-writing journeys reminded me why this work is so meaningful.” Prof. Dhaigude underscored the enduring role of narrative in learning, framing cases as stories that spark deeper understanding and critical inquiry.
Reinforcing the importance of pedagogical intent in every case, Prof. Debmallya Chatterjee remarked, “What you want to teach is the heart of case writing. Otherwise, every story looks like a case study for a case writer!”
Participants walked away with deep insights, renewed perspectives, and a strengthened appreciation for writing impactful management cases.
Here’s what the participants said:
“I walked into the Ivey Publishing Case Study Workshop imagining three days of structured discussions. Instead, it felt like stepping into a room of mirrors, each conversation reflecting new perspectives I had never noticed before. This wasn’t just learning; it was unlearning, the tougher but far more rewarding part of growth. I’m walking away with a notebook full of insights, a mind echoing with possibilities, and a renewed appreciation for the power of case writing.”
