SPJIMR Chronicles: Where memories bloom like wildflowers

Saloni Verma PGPM 2023

As I navigate the intricate labyrinth of the corporate world, I’m constantly reminded of the simplicity and joy of college life once offered. Penning my thoughts down, a wave of nostalgia washes over me. It’s been a year since I started my MBA journey at SPJIMR, a year filled with learning, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime. From the first step into the lush green SPJIMR campus to the last dance at MLS Auditorium, each moment has become a cherished memory.

The odyssey began with the Personal Growth Lab (PG Lab) experience, a journey that resonated with echoes of bonding and self-discovery. A retreat to the hills of Lonavala! We had enriching personal growth presentations and fun activities that were not just about career aspirations but also about unveiling the layers of our personalities. And icing on the pie was the unforgettable climb to Duke’s Nose, a thrilling trek garnering resilience and camaraderie. As I hear about the recent batch experiencing their own PG Lab, it’s like reliving the magic all over again.

It was during my undergraduate days at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee when I learned about the significance of extracurriculars along with good academics I carried the torch of enthusiasm to SPJIMR. Actively participating in various clubs and events wasn’t just a hobby; it was a way of life. Dance, music, art, sports – you name it, and I was there, participating with passion and joy. These events were not just about competition; they were about fostering self-confidence, compassion, and an infectious delight in celebrating our shared passions that lit up the entire campus.

It was a humbling experience to lead the SPeak club, a responsibility that transformed into a joyous exploration of diverse voices. From helping the batch mates get over stage fright to turning into confident orators. My consistent efforts towards public speaking skills landed me an opportunity to Emcee at Samavesh, our business conclave, an experience where every spotlight felt like a burst of stardust.

Apart from this, daily walks by the lake became my ritual – a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of MBA life. The lush surroundings and the occasional glimpse of Ramlal, our campus peacock, turned these strolls into peaceful journeys. And let’s not forget how SPJIMR’s commitment to being animal-friendly added another layer of charm to the campus. It was the biodiversity, super friendly dogs, and cats that made our stay extra special and coexist in perfect harmony.

Of course, it wasn’t all fun and games. There were personal aspirations to outdo academically as well, ascertained by the intense rigour of our MBA programme. Late-night assignments were the norm, and more often than not, we found ourselves burning the midnight oil until the next dawn. But even that was fun as we pushed our limits with a sense of shared accountability and team spirit that made the experience worthwhile.

One of my fascinating memories is the Midnight Oppenheimer show that a bunch of us decided to watch. We returned to the campus at 4 am, only to be greeted by a morning quiz at 10 am. It was surely a test of our endurance, but looking back, it was these moments of spontaneity and fun that truly defined our MBA experience.

As I reflect on my SPJIMR journey, I realise that this campus isn’t just a place where I earned my MBA; it’s a repository of lessons, friendships, and moments that have shaped the person I am today. It is more than an institution; a place that will forever hold a special corner in my heart.
