Abhyudaya Green Games 2025: Mentorship in motion

Tanay Ranjan, PGDM 2024 – 26

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme at SPJIMR is widely recognised for its unique blend of academic rigour and unparalleled networking opportunities. Whether it’s connecting with peers, esteemed faculty, or industry leaders, students find themselves immersed in a vibrant community. Yet, when I ask any PGDM participant about the most cherished relationships they developed at SPJIMR, they will highlight the profound mentor-mentee connection with their Abhyudaya Sitara. Sitaras literally mean stars, these are the bright, underprivileged children assigned to each first-year PGDM participant to mentor for the entire year.

The Abhyudaya programme is a transformative experience for us PGDM participants. We undertake a journey full of growth, learning, and fun along with our Sitaras. One of the marquee events at SPJIMR is the much-anticipated ‘Green Games’ day. This event brings together Sitaras and their mentor—didis and bhaiyas— for a day brimming with fun, games, and challenges.

The 2025 edition of the Green Games, held on January 12th, was a spectacle to behold, featuring 360 mentor-mentee pairs engaging in five thrilling events designed to test their physical and mental capabilities while forging unforgettable memories. For the Sitaras, the Green Games offer a golden opportunity to use the impressive infrastructure offered by SPJIMR to the fullest. And undertake a wonderful journey of overcoming challenges, showcasing talents, and fostering deeper connections with their mentors.

One of the most memorable activities for me was the hula-hoop challenge, where teams of 20 had to manoeuvre the hoop across a huddle without breaking contact. This activity, along with solving riddles in a spirited round of Bingo and dancing with our Sitaras—regardless of our two-left-feet moments—strengthened the bond between our Sitaras and us their Didis and Bhaiyas.

I was amused to see the Sitaras did not miss any opportunity to chuck balls at us during the dodgeball and or pull the rug from under their mentors during the tug-of-war games. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and camaraderie and was truly a day to remember. I feel that the bonds formed here, nurtured through shared experiences and challenges make Green Games more than just an event; it’s a chapter in the SPJIMR story that we will cherish forever.

Ultimately, the Green Games are a testament to the spirit of SPJIMR—a community where learning goes hand-in-hand with living, and every experience becomes a stepping stone to greater understanding and connection.
