Abizer Diwanji is EY India Financial Services Leader. Focused on M&A advisory, restructuring, business advisory and regulatory advisory services, he is the National Leader of Financial Services and Restructuring in India. He has been a financial service professional for over 28 years and is a charted accountant by profession.
Abizer has been associated with over 150 transactions during his career and adopted insolvency as a career first in 2008 when he handled the winding down of the Indian entities of Lehman Brothers, the distressed sale of MFG global to Phillip Capital and representing bondholders in a restructuring of a large Pharmaceutical company.
In the year 2014, Abizer started the Debt and Restructuring business within EY along with a few other partners to build out a financial and operational restructuring business in India, which got a boost when the Reserve Bank conducted an AQR of the Indian banking system resulting in a $ 250 billion NPA book. EY was a leader in various financial restructuring propositions under the RBI schemes and in most schemes was the first to implement and quickly established its position as a leader in the insolvency space. The latest being the resolution of DHFL.
Abizer has been part of various committees on structural reform with the Reserve Bank of India (on Secondary debt market/Asset reconstruction/New Bank licensing) and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (Bad bank and Cross Border insolvencies, Group Insolvencies).
