Keep moving forward — one step, one task, one deadline at a time

As my time at SPJIMR comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on a journey that has been nothing short of transformative. The past year has been a whirlwind—filled with challenges, learning, late-night deadlines, and unforgettable friendships. For those currently navigating this journey, here are a few things I’ve learned along the way—things I wish I had known when I started:

1. The pace will overwhelm you—but that’s okay. A term here feels like a sprint, and just when you catch your breath, the next challenge is already knocking. Some days, you’ll feel on top of everything; other days, you’ll struggle to keep up. That’s normal. The key is to keep moving forward—one step, one task, one deadline at a time.
2. Learning happens in unexpected places. Yes, the lectures are insightful, but some of the biggest lessons come from outside the classroom—group projects that test your patience, late-night brainstorming sessions, and real-world exposure through DoCC, and deep discussions with faculty that challenge your thinking. Absorb it all.
3. Your batchmates will shape your journey more than you think. You’ll meet people who challenge your thinking, inspire you with their resilience, and stand by you when the going gets tough. Some of them will become lifelong friends, while others will leave you with lessons that stay with you long after SPJIMR. Take the time to know the people around you—everyone has a story worth hearing.
4. You don’t need to do everything. At SPJIMR, FOMO is inevitable. There’s always another case competition, guest lecture, networking event, or club to join. But you don’t have to do it all. Pick what excites you, what adds value to your journey, and give it your best. Saying no to some things will allow you to say yes to what truly matters.
5. Placements will test your patience and perspective. No matter how well you prepare, the process is unpredictable. Some will get their dream role quickly, while others will face rejection before landing the right opportunity. It’s easy to get caught up in comparisons, but trust that things will work out in the end.
6. One year goes by faster than you think. When you’re in the middle of it, the days seem long and the deadlines endless. But before you know it, you’ll be writing a post like this, wondering how time flew by. So, make the most of every moment—learn, experiment, build relationships, and most importantly, enjoy the ride. To those still in the thick of it—hang in there, make it count, and embrace the journey. It’s tough, it’s intense, but it’s also one of the most incredible experiences you’ll ever have.
