S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) welcomed the 11th cohort of its Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), marking the beginning of a transformative doctoral journey for the new group of scholars. The inauguration ceremony, held at the SPJIMR campus, brought together incoming scholars, faculty members, and current doctoral candidates, offering the opportunity to engage with the institute’s vibrant research community.
The new cohort represents diverse academic backgrounds and professional experiences, with research interests spanning Marketing, Strategy, Finance & Accounting, Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management (OBHR), and Economics & Policy.
Welcoming the scholars, Prof. Janakiraman Moorthy, Associate Dean, Academic and Research, reflected on the broader purpose of doctoral research and the scholars’ responsibility to create knowledge that addresses contemporary business and societal challenges. Introducing the concept of KASH (Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habits), he encouraged participants to cultivate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a holistic approach to scholarship.
“Look beyond what is immediately visible to uncover deeper insights,” he remarked, emphasising the importance of asking meaningful questions and pursuing research that generates value for academia, industry, and society.
Addressing the cohort, Prof. Bikramjit Ray Chaudhuri, Programme Chairperson, shared practical insights on navigating the demands of doctoral study. He highlighted the importance of consistency, disciplined work habits, and resilience in sustaining progress through the various stages of research.
He noted that doctoral success is often built through sustained effort rather than isolated breakthroughs and encouraged scholars to embrace the challenges of research as opportunities to question established assumptions, develop new perspectives, and contribute to the advancement of management scholarship.
The inauguration also introduced scholars to SPJIMR’s research ecosystem, which supports doctoral candidates through faculty mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, research seminars, paper development workshops, and opportunities to engage with national and international academic communities. Through its FPM, SPJIMR seeks to develop scholar-practitioners who combine intellectual rigour with purpose-driven inquiry, furthering SPJIMR’s mission of influencing managerial practice and creating positive societal impact through knowledge creation.
