SPJIMR was the partner & host for the 13th Indian Management Conclave 2023. The conference was held on October 13-14, 2023 at its Mumbai campus.

Organised by MBAUniverse.com in partnership with India’s top B-schools and knowledge organisations, Indian Management Conclave (IMC) is India’s definitive annual Management Education Conference & Awards Platform. IMC 2023 Agenda

IMC 2023  Highlights:

Day 1 of IMC 2023 was a dynamic journey through the evolving business landscape. The inaugural session, “Business Value Creation in the Age of Disruption: Implications for Management Education,” featured keynotes by Harsh Mariwala, Chairman of Marico Limited, and Keryn Chalmers, Dean at Swinburne University of Technology. SPJIMR Dean Varun Nagaraj launched the print edition of its journal Management Practice Insights (MPI). Malay Krishna, Director & Editor-in-Chief, MPI highlighted the journal’s objective: to influence managerial practice by offering accessible, concise and contextual insights derived from evidence-based academic research.

In Session 1, “Business Value Creation in Banking & Financial Services Sector,” the panel included Rakesh Singh, Group Head of Investment Banking, Private Banking, Marketing, and Products, HDFC Bank; Srirang T K, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, ICICI Bank; and Abizer Diwanji, Head of Financial Services, EY India, with moderation by Gaurav Srivastava, Regional Director, GMAC.

Session 2, “Business Value Creation in Consulting Sector,” featured insights from Swati Agarwal Partner, Deloitte and Chief Talent Officer at Deloitte India Consulting, along with Vinay Hebbar, Executive Vice-President and Head of Corporate Learning and International Markets at Harvard Business Publishing.

Session 3 highlighted the significant growth of the Indian IT & BPM sector, moderated by Edwin Moses, Former COO, Sasken Technologies; Professor, Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM) included panellists Sunil Bhatia, Board Member & Investor and former Global CEO, INFOGAIN; Gaurav Sharma, Director and Global Head of Hybrid Cloud Product Management, Offerings & GTM, HCL Technologies; and Himanshu Goyal, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering Leader, WatsonX.ai – Client Engineering, IBM, with moderation by Edwin Moses.

Session 4 explored “Business Value Creation in Digital Platforms & Enablers,” with insights from Anjani Rathor, Chief Digital Officer at HDFC Bank and Bhaskar Ramesh, Director, Google India; moderated by Shailaja Jha, Department Chair of Information Management & Analytics at SPJIMR Mumbai.

The key highlight of Day 1 was the highly anticipated international keynote address on “Three-Box Solution: A Strategy for Leading Innovation & Digital Disruption of Business Education” by Vijay Govindarajan, a world-renowned expert on Strategy and Innovation.

A special session on MBA education and skills followed, featuring panellists  Hardeep Singh, CEO of 7-Eleven India; Gabriela Allmi, Senior Director for EMEA & Asia Pacific at Harvard Business Publishing Education; and Sachin Jain, Country Manager for India & South Asia at ETS, moderated by Amit Agnihotri, Founder of IMC & MBAUniverse.com.

The eventful day culminated with the presentation of AACSB International Certificates.

The concluding day of IMC 2023, commenced with international keynote address by Soumitra Dutta, Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, UK. He presented a global perspective on MBA education in the age of disruption.

The Directors’ Roundtable session addressed the critical topic of NEP 2020 and its implications for standalone B-schools. Esteemed panellists, including Fr. Sebastian George (Director, XLRI Jamshedpur), Varun Nagaraj (Dean, SPJIMR Mumbai), Bhimaraya Metri (Director, IIM Nagpur), P H Chaturvedi (Alt President, EPSI; Director, BIMTECH Greater Noida), Vishal Talwar (Director, IMT Ghaziabad), Ajit Parulekar (Director, Goa Institute of Management), Shreevats Jaipuria (Vice Chairman, Jaipuria Institute of Management), and Asit K Barma (Director, BIM Tiruchirappalli), explored the diverse challenges and opportunities offered by the proposed NEP.

The valedictory session featured a special address on MBA education from an Indian perspective by Bharat Bhasker (Director, IIM Ahmedabad). The IMC Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Ajay Kapur (CEO – Cement Business, Adani Cement; Former Managing Director & CEO, Ambuja Cements Ltd; Distinguished Alumnus of K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai), recognising his excellence in business management.

Soumitra Dutta shared his insights on opportunities for Indian B-schools, and T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council of Technical Education – AICTE delivered the valedictory address, offering the final thoughts on this remarkable event.

IMC 2023 was a resounding success, bringing together academic leaders, industry experts, and visionaries to chart a course for the future of management education.
