Diplomacy in a multipolar world

November 19, 2024

Mrs. Sylvie Bermann, President of the World Nuclear Exhibit and former Ambassador of France in China, UK and Russia, addressed SPJIMR Global Management Programme (GMP) participants on ‘Diplomacy in a Multipolar World’. Drawing from her extensive career, she shared unique insights into global diplomacy and international relations.

Highlighting how diplomacy is the art of what’s possible and it is about defending values rather than imposing them, Mrs. Bermann said, “We need better governance in terms of peace and security issues. Diplomacy should be multilateral and bilateral. Diplomacy is not once a year; it is every day.” The session was organised by the Global Management Programme (GMP) team at SPJIMR Mumbai to equip participants with the skills and competencies necessary for effective management in a global environment.

The session was top-notch, and I am glad to have attended it. Ambassador Bermann’s experiences and insights on geopolitical topics were very insightful. Her ability to connect historical events with current global trends provided a comprehensive perspective on the complexities of diplomacy in today’s evolving world order. The examples she shared from her career brought authenticity and depth to the discussion, making it not only informative but also deeply engaging. I’m really looking forward to have more sessions of this sort in the future.
