SPJIMR successfully hosted the India module of the Business and Social Impact in Emerging Markets (BSIEM) 2025 conference from March 10 to 17. The week-long event brought together nearly 30 students from universities in Russia, Colombia, India, and Mexico for an engaging exchange on ‘Social business opportunities and practices in India’, focusing on sustainability, ethical business practices, and emerging global challenges.
BSIEM India 2025 featured expert-led sessions from academia and industry. Debraj Ghosal, Assistant Professor, Strategy at SPJIMR, spoke about business opportunities in India’s green transition, while Arindam Das, Professor, Strategy at SPJIMR, and Alka Upadhyay, Partner at EY, discussed business responsibility and sustainability reporting.
Prabhat Pani, Executive in Residence at SPJIMR, Foram Nagori, Head CSR, Tata Power, and Rohit Saroj, DGM CSR, Tata Motors, shared insights into philanthropy and corporate social responsibility in large family-owned firms, with a focus on the Tata Group. Disha Bhanot, Associate Professor, OSCM&QM at SPJIMR, and Anishkumar M.S., State Programme Manager, Kudumbashree, highlighted the role of microentrepreneurs and microenterprises in India, emphasising grassroots innovation and inclusive growth.
The BSIEM India 2025 was organised by Prof. Debraj on behalf of SPJIMR, along with the ADMAP BSC INTEX student committee members led by Hemaang Malhotra. The conference concluded with student-led presentations, where multinational teams analysed sustainability challenges across healthcare, education, and apparel, applying the concepts they had learnt. These projects were guided and evaluated by professors Ghosal and Bhanot.
