With over 40 percent of the new batch made up of women, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) welcomed a truly diverse batch this year for its largest programme, the two-year full-time MBA-equivalent Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). Also, almost a third of the batch is made up of non-engineers.
The class of 2021 has a large representation of women and this is without any special weightage given to gender diversity during the selection process. There were no additional marks given for women candidates. Apart from engineers, the batch has students from commerce, science, arts, fashion technology, management studies and accountancy background.
“This could be reflective of the rise in academic and gender diversity among Common Admission Test (CAT) takers. We are very happy to have a truly diverse mix of students from different academic backgrounds and representing the various parts of the county and beyond. This will definitely improve the classroom experience and make the peer-learning even more effective. We at SPJIMR are committed to providing the next generation of value based leaders to the industry, who will balance profit and social purpose”, said Dr Sajeev George, Chairperson of the PGDM programme.
SPJIMR’s PGDM is a two-year, full-time residential programme approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), The Association of MBAs (AMBA) and Association of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The programme offers four specialisations – Finance, Information Management, Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain. Students visit an international B-school in the second year for advanced courses in their area of specialisation. The partner B-Schools include Cornell University (Johnson School of Management) for Finance and Marketing, Michigan State University (Eli Broad College of Business) for Operations and Supply Chain and Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper School of Business) for Information Management.
