Abhyudaya featured among leading global community engagement initiatives

June 15, 2026

SPJIMR’s Abhyudaya initiative was featured in a Financial Times (FT) article titled ‘Finance students’ ‘near-peer’ mentoring raises school pupils’ financial literacy.’ The article formed part of the special report, Business Education: Financial Training, which explored how business schools worldwide connected students and faculty with local communities to advance education and social development. Abhyudaya was featured alongside initiatives from nearly 50 institutions globally, including The Wharton School, Georgetown University and EDHEC Business School.

While many global outreach efforts focus on university applications or financial training, the FT article noted that Abhyudaya stands out for its deep-rooted inclusivity and community impact. Quoting Arati Nagaraj, Director, Abhyudaya, the article highlighted the initiative’s focus on creating long-term social impact through mentorship, practical support and community partnerships.

Our support focuses on financial literacy as well as broader practical help. Families often don’t even have the proper documentation they require for government programmes. I hope one day a Sitara will become a mentor.” – Arati Nagaraj, Director, Abhyudaya

This inclusion in the Financial Times special report provides an overview of how SPJIMR’s non-classroom, immersive experiences, such as Abhyudaya, contribute to community development and align with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
