PGPFMB Batch 32 Regional Immersion at Dehradun

PGPFMB Batch 32 travelled to Dehradun, for their regional immersion. Academic sessions were held at our partner institute UPES, Kandoli campus. The immersion started with an interactive session with Mr. Hitesh Windlass, Managing Director, Windlas Biotech Limited, engaged in Manufacturing of Pharmaceutical Formulations. Next on agenda was the engaging fireside chat with PGPFMB 8 alum, Mr. Pawandeep Sahni, Co-founder and CEO, Culinary Communications Pvt Ltd, moderated by Prof. Tulsi Jayakumar, Executive Director, CFBE and PGPFMB Chairperson. Mr. Sahni shared various anecdotes from his journey with our participants and also guided them on the importance of cultivating a learning mindset at all times. He emphasised that it’s important to understand that family and family business are two very different things and hence must be dealt with accordingly. Being an avid bibliophile he recommended a book for every problem.

Our participants immersive learning was further augmented through meaningful interactions with representatives of Industries Association of Uttarakhand (IAU). Mr. Pankaj Gupta, President, IAU gave a brief overview of the present scenario of the region with regards to the scope for setting up industries in Uttarakhand as well for those considering expansion here. Mr. Rajiv Agarwal, Senior Vice President, IAU, shared his personal journey of setting up his family business and how viable this region is to set up new businesses with Single Window System (SWS) which is followed in Uttarakhand. Mr. Anil Goyal, State General Secretary, IAU said, “While we run our businesses it is imperative that we must be aware of its impact on the society and environment.”

Regional Immersion is conducted in Phase II, the advanced phase of the PGPFMB programme. It offers PGPFMB participant an opportunity to explore emerging markets in tier two /tier three city of India. Because of their more affordable living and operating costs, expanding infrastructure, and encouraging government policies, these emerging markets are attracting more and more attention from investors. Regional immersion contributes to being a vital component of the PGPFMB programme. The immersion brings an unparalleled exposure for a participant to understand the underlying benefit these cities/ region brings to the table for a family managed business. The prospect of higher return, understanding the business opportunities lying in that region, networking with peers and alumni, are some of the key takeaways which a participant brings back.

SPJIMR’s Post Graduate Programme in Family Managed Business (PGPFMB) is designed to groom new entrants to family businesses to enable organic growth for self and their family businesses. It helps preserve and nurture the legacy of the earlier generations and leave one’s indelible mark on the family business for years to come. Conceived and launched in 1997, the programme is the pioneer in post-graduate family-managed business programmes in India. It has grown in strength, with 37 batches already having gone through the programme.
