Independence Day 2023

The SPJIMR community commemorated the 77th Independence Day with fervour, paying tribute to the vision of all our patriots. The event commenced with an inspiring march past by the Bhavan’s NCC Women Cadets and Dean Prof. Varun Nagaraj hoisting the tricolour. This was followed by vibrant recitals, music and dance performances by our participants from various programmes. The captivating cultural performances reflected the vibrant diversity of Indian culture.
The highlight of the I-day celebrations was an immersive walking tour of the in-house composting unit at the SPJIMR campus, organised by the Eco-Champions. The walking tour saw enthusiastic participation from SPJIMR faculty, participants, and staff, including Dean Prof. Varun Nagaraj. This event provided attendees with hands-on insights into the process of transforming biodegradable waste into usable compost through composting techniques and also informed them about various responsible and sustainable waste management practices.
Eco-champions is a SPJIMR initiative committed to promoting responsible waste management practices and contributing to a cleaner and greener future. In March this year, SPJIMR inaugurated the waste management project catering to all five institutes on the Andheri, Bhavan’s campus, i.e. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Bhavan’s College, Andheri (M. M. College of Arts, N. M. Institute of Science, H. R. J. College of Commerce), Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s A. H. Wadia High School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sardar Patel Institute of Technology. The project is supported by the HT Parekh Foundation and aims to prevent bio-waste from reaching landfills, generate compost, recycle dry and hazardous waste, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
