Varun Rijhwani brings with him a wealth of experience as a communications professional and researcher. He has obtained his doctoral degree in human-machine communication from MICA, Ahmedabad. His thesis focused on the personal determinants influencing the adoption of digital voice assistants, such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Home, with the aim to provide insights to designers and developers of digital voice assistants, enabling them to create more user-friendly and engaging technology. He has also been a visiting scholar at the School of Communication, Western Michigan University, MI, USA., where he developed his thesis proposal and worked on various research projects.
As a valued faculty member at the Communications and Social Robotics (COMBOT) Lab, Varun delved into the intricacies of human-robot interaction and the perceptual dynamics shaping these interactions. Equipped with a CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Cambridge, he holds the license to teach English globally. Prior to joining SPJIMR, he was an Assistant Professor at the School of Business Management, NMIMS, Mumbai. Driven by a fervent curiosity for human-machine interaction, his philosophy centres on merging theory with practice to elevate digital communication tools. Through rigorous research, he strives to offer actionable insights, empowering designers and developers to create intuitive and user-centric technologies. As an educator, he is committed to nurturing critical thinking skills among the youth, fostering effective communication that enriches human connections and fosters positive societal evolution.
