Cake, colourful paintings and a new film that captures the SPJIMR journey mark SPJIMR Day 2017

April 17, 2017

The SPJIMR family came together on Monday (April 17) to celebrate SPJIMR Day, marking the day 36 years ago when the Rt. Hon. Margaret Thatcher laid the foundation stone of the Institute.

At the SPJIMR campus, the traditional cake cutting ceremony was preceded by celebrations in the auditorium, where a new eight minute film on SPJIMR was released. The audio visual is directed by the noted film director Sandeep A. Varma, who has written and directed the film Manjunath based on the true story of Manjunath Shanmugam.

The SPJIMR AV is live at the SPJIMR YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/7M6B9geSxOE and on the SPJIMR Facebook page.

SPJIMR Day this year also saw family members depicting what the Institute is and stands for in a set of paintings.

Ten paintings were displayed, of which three were awarded and will go up on what is proposed to be a permanent SPJIMR gallery. The paintings varyingly depicted strong roots, the idea of nurturing, values, inspiration, a burst of energy along with a sense of calm – two seemingly incongruent sides sitting together in a balancing relationship.

The paintings were judged by Mr. Ashok Mody, a noted painter, and SPJIMR Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee.

A large cake was later cut by Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee as family members posed for pictures in the SPJIMR foyer.
