PGPDM is a 12-month modular programme offered by SPJIMR for professionals working in or intending to work in the social sector, including NGOs, foundations, corporate for-profit CSR functions, social policy or welfare departments of governments, and social enterprises specialising in Development Management (for more information please see FAQ on Career trajectory). The programme is divided into three terms and is designed to address various aspects of the development sector. It enables participants with essential skills to take forward their initiatives in pursuing social justice.
The programme was launched in 2011 as Indian businesses attempted to meet their corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) attempted to improve the effectiveness of their interventions in order to secure grants and CSR funds successfully. After 12 years of learning and observing COVID-19’s recent impact on society, the programme has been redesigned to place a greater emphasis on wise innovation and change management for long-term development.
This is the only Development Management Programme in India that has been internationally accredited by The Association of MBAs (AMBA), UK. AMBA accreditation recognises the highest standards of achievement earned by the best postgraduate business education programmes in the world.

PGPDM programme aims to enable development sector professionals to contextualise and apply management principles to the social sector for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of social sector organisations. PGPDM is aligned with the following competency goals:

The programme has the locational advantage of being situated in the financial capital with a large-scale presence of social sector, public policy, and corporate actors. With over 250 plant species and a lake, our 45-acre campus in Andheri is an urban oasis, providing a very conducive location for social change agents to learn and reflect.
The delivery structure of the programme blends the efficiency of online learning with the proven advantages of in-person classroom sessions. For online contacts, sessions are held after lunch on weekdays and all day on weekends. PGPDM is a modular programme that enables participants to continue working at their current organisations. It is delivered over six contact periods of two weeks each, the first, third and last contacts are residential and held on SPJIMR’s Mumbai campus.
With 23 cohorts in over 14 years – PGPDM has impacted 417 organisations across 28 states of India. PGPDM alumni are serving as founders, heads, trustees and directors of NGOs, social entrepreneurs, CSR managers, programme officers and consultants across social sector organisations
The programme emphasises on interactive pedagogy with a focus on real-life, problem-solving and case studies from the social sector. Blending theory and practice, the programme requires participants to do application exercises, field-based assignments, and projects during the off-contact period to test and ensure the relevance of knowledge acquired in classroom settings to participants’ work environments.
