The 21st edition of the Guild of Actors at SPJIMR (GASP) was a remarkable event that seamlessly combined stimulating theatre with moments of introspection. The evening commenced with an inspiring address by Ivan Sylvester Rodrigues, an esteemed theatre and film actor and SPJIMR PGDM/MMS 1991 alumnus. He shared his personal journey of transitioning from the corporate world to the stage, driven by a profound passion for the arts and offered valuable insights on overcoming fear, embracing authenticity, and the importance of pursuing one’s true calling. Ivan highlighted the significant role that SPJIMR played in helping him discover the courage to follow his dreams and navigate the path of change.
The play Symphony Central delivered a powerful performance with its compelling narrative that delves into the complexities of ambition, identity, and personal struggle. The play centred around Armana Trislan, a gifted musician burdened by her mother’s high expectations and the manipulative influence of a fading music producer, Benedict. As Armana journeys toward independence, the narrative explores the emotional turmoil of striving for one’s true self amidst external pressures.
GASP is a student-driven initiative that provides participants with the opportunity to showcase their creative talents through theatre productions. SPJIMR students manage and execute all aspects of the production process, from ideation to the final show, with faculty facilitators offering guidance and support throughout the journey.
The play’s outstanding performances, engaging storytelling, and well-executed narrative made it a memorable experience. The event underscored the dedication of the student committee, the performers, and all those who contributed to the production’s success. As the curtains fell on GASP 2025, it was evident that the event continues to inspire students to explore their passions and express their creativity.
