Five divisions, one campus: The energy of Div Wars

Disha Banerjee, PGDM 2025-27

Every year, when November moves into December, the atmosphere on campus changes. It becomes slightly busier, slightly louder and a lot more energetic because ‘Division Wars’ begins. For the five PGDM divisions – A, B, C, D and E – Div Wars is not just a set of events. It has become a familiar cultural moment where each division comes together with a shared sense of participation and healthy competition.

The preparation begins well before the matches. People start practising sports they have not played in a long time, football teams spend time planning drills, and many try out new activities simply because they want to be involved. What stands out is that almost everyone participates in some way. Students find their own roles within their divisions, whether it is playing, coordinating or cheering. The pre-event phase is usually where new friendships form and existing ones strengthen, and it sets the tone for the rest of the month.

The announcement of division names adds to the excitement. This year, the divisions are Anarchy, Big Dawgs, C-Suite, SPD and Peak-E-Blinders. Soon after, the T-shirts arrive, and each division adopts its own colour, theme and logo. It creates a simple sense of belonging because you can immediately recognise your own group in any crowd.

A major reason why Division Wars runs so smoothly is that it is entirely student-organised. Sprint X Ojas works with division SPOCs to create a structured calendar across sports like cricket, volleyball, badminton, TT, chess, pickleball and more. The official rulebook is detailed and thought through, ensuring that every match is fair and that the format remains consistent across divisions. The rules are reviewed multiple times, which makes the competitions balanced and easy to follow.

Once the sports conclude, the cultural events begin with Music, Dance and Group Skit. These evenings bring the divisions together in a different way. The energy shifts from the field to the stage, but the enthusiasm stays the same.

Across the month, Division Wars brings out qualities that students may not always get to display during academics – leadership, teamwork, consistency and resilience. People show up for each other, support their teams and enjoy being part of something collective.

Division Wars 2025 has officially kicked off, and even though the results are still unfolding, the energy on campus already feels more charged and connected than ever. Teams are buzzing, participants are everywhere, and the competitive spirit is unmistakable.
