Prof. Sapna Malya and Prof. Sajeev Abraham George win Best Paper Award for ESG research

S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research celebrates the achievement of Prof. Sapna Malya and Prof. Sajeev Abraham George, who were awarded the Best Paper Award at the INDAM-KJSIM International MSME Conference 2025.

Their paper, ‘Evaluating ESG Performance of SMEs: A Data Envelopment Analysis Approach’, secured top honours in the General Management track, recognising the duo’s innovative approach to sustainability research in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.

Developing practical ESG measurement tools

The researchers tackled a critical challenge facing Indian SMEs by developing a systematic framework to measure environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. They applied data envelopment analysis to evaluate ESG metrics among SMEs listed on major Indian stock exchanges.

Prof. Sapna Malya expressed her enthusiasm about the recognition: “We are delighted that our research on creating a systematic ESG measurement framework for Indian SMEs has been acknowledged at the INDAM conference. We hope our proposed methodology for measuring ESG performance among SMEs listed on BSE/NSE will contribute to theoretical understanding while helping small enterprises with practical tools for sustainable growth.”
