SPJIMR welcomed its new cohort of aspiring global leaders to the prestigious Global Management Programme (GMP) with a distinguished inauguration ceremony. This diverse group includes professionals from varied backgrounds—ranging from MBBS graduates and content writers to published authors, architects, and engineers—marking the beginning of a transformative journey for participants who will shape the future of international business and management.
In his welcome address, Prof. Milind Kamat, Programme Chairperson, highlighted GMP’s distinctive position, emphasising that GMP remains the only programme of its kind in the country. He added, “The programme’s strength lies in its robust alumni network, with graduates working at leading firms including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, PwC, Deloitte, and UBS, demonstrating how GMP nurtures world-class business leaders.”
Prof. Kamat identified critical success factors that would guide their journey: “Passion for learning remains paramount. Curiosity drives effective learning.” He encouraged students to “maximise networking opportunities” and “venture beyond books and classrooms.”
In addition, he outlined the opportunities GMP offers to study at leading international partner institutions, including ESB Business School and EBS Business School in Germany, IÉSEG School of Management in France, Nyenrode Business Universiteit in the Netherlands, and Stevens School of Business in the USA.
Prof. Renuka Kamath, Associate Dean, Full-time Programmes at SPJIMR, encouraged the incoming batch to embrace this transformative chapter and highlighted the importance of continuous growth, noting, “If you truly want to learn, you must unlearn some things. Be like a sponge—keep absorbing knowledge.”
She presented two guiding principles aligned with SPJIMR’s mission that would serve as their compass:
Influencing practice — wherever your career takes you.
Value-based growth — never achieve success at others’ expense.
Chief Guest Christoph Rendtorff, Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, shared insights about global opportunities and presented three compelling reasons for considering Germany as a career destination:
He encouraged students to develop crucial language competencies. GMP offers its students 200+ hours of language training before joining the partner school.
Prof. Sesha Iyer, Advisor to Dean at SPJIMR, shared profound insights that resonated deeply with the audience: “Sometimes challenges arise, but find opportunities within them.” He identified two sources of genuine fulfilment: “Happiness stems from both consumption and contribution. Choose contribution, because true happiness comes from helping others.”
The ceremony concluded with introductions of faculty and staff members representing the diverse expertise students will access throughout their journey.
The participants of GMP Batch 22 commenced their transformative journey at SPJIMR, equipped with wisdom from distinguished faculty and international partners. They stand ready to make their mark on the world of global business—and beyond.
