6 months at SPJIMR: Not just a B-School, but a mirror

Geetika Bhatia, PGPM Batch 21

They say that an MBA is supposed to be the best time of your life.

Now, I truly understand why. 6 months in, and I still can’t put a finger on what exactly has changed, because almost everything has. From 5.5 years of a structured corporate life to the delightful unpredictability of a B-School, SPJIMR has been a journey of rediscovering pace, purpose and people.

If I had to sum it up in numbers, it would look something like this:

394 lectures

48 assignments

42 exams

22 courses

4 terms

1 semester

And within all that structure, I experienced a series of personal firsts:

  • Consulted for a real family-run business as a part of Confluence, which gave me a platform to think beyond frameworks and solve for real people.
  • Performed a solo dance on stage – pushing past hesitations to find joy in vulnerability.
  • Lived in a hostel – made me discover how much learning happens outside the classroom.
  • Celebrated festivals I had never experienced before, feeling the joy of togetherness in new traditions.
  • Became a part of the Alumni Committee, bridging the gap between the past and present of SPJIMR.
  • Played a TT tournament, started gymming, and most importantly, learned how to pause and restart.

These past 6 months weren’t perfect, but they were real. Between back-to-back classes and 11:59 pm submissions, what stayed constant was a deeper realisation:

We don’t just come here to learn business – we come here to learn who we are while doing business. And behind that learning were the ones who made it all come alive – our faculty. Equal parts of wisdom and wit, they aren’t just experts in their fields, but mentors who challenge us to think deeper and help us uncover our own ‘why’.

Studying best-selling case studies authored by our own professors added a new sense of pride and relevance to every classroom experience. But if there’s one thing that truly defines this journey so far, it’s the people. My cohort has been the real deal.

Supportive. Brilliant. Hilarious. Empathetic. The kind of people who cheer for your wins, sit with you through your lows and make the most chaotic days lighter.

And we even won division wars – a true celebration of madness, unity and unforgettable fun. Through it all, the campus remained our silent companion — calm, lush and full of stories. And the peacock? Always a heartthrob. So here’s to the road ahead. To the next semester of stretching limits, breaking comfort zones and building something beautiful with some of the best people I know.
