Domestic industrial visit for the Retail elective—Chennai

November 17-18, 2025

Participants of the PGPFMB programme undergo a two-day domestic industrial visit, in phase three, based on their major elective. The curriculum of the programme is customised from the perspective of a family business owner; hence, the electives are structured on the basis of the business verticals—Manufacturing, Retail, Service, and Real Estate and Infrastructure. These visits, conducted within India, expose participants to best practices across industries. They provide participants with a visual and practical understanding of the concepts taught during academic sessions. The on-ground exposure, followed by an expert debrief, helps them summarise the entire experience and further enhance their learning.

Participants of FMB 36—Retail elective visited Chennai along with the faculty head, Prof. Upamanyu Bhattacharya, for their domestic industrial visit. This out-of-class learning experience ensured that the participants gained deeper insights into the Retail industry, the various strategic resources invested in these businesses, how to evaluate these investments, and how to build improvement plans. For this particular DIV, the group visited GRT Jewellers, Pothys, Specsmakers, and Nuts n’ Spice. Each of these visits provided an in-depth understanding of the practices and processes followed by these organisations. It truly helped the students connect classroom learning to real-world practices.
