At the EFMD Global Asia Conference 2024 in Tokyo, Prof. Tulsi Jayakumar, Executive Director of SPJIMR’s Centre for Family Business & Entrepreneurship (CFBE), represented SPJIMR as part of an expert panel on ‘Family Business – Impact, Influence, and Future’. She joined Dominique Turpin, Takashi Yoneda and moderator Yuan Ding to discuss how business schools can empower family enterprises by enhancing both their social and financial capital.
The discussion addressed fundamental questions central to the success of family businesses, such as: What strategies can educational institutions use to build trust with family businesses? How can business schools support these enterprises in maintaining economic resilience across generations? The session highlighted the critical role of management education in preparing family businesses for sustainable, trans-generational growth. Prof. Jayakumar emphasised that business schools are not only equipping next-generation leaders with essential skills but also strengthening the values and traditions unique to family-owned enterprises.
The session underscored the potential of SPJIMR’s CFBE to lead and innovate in family business education, preparing future leaders with the resilience and vision needed to meet the evolving demands of the global economy.
Reflecting on the conference, Prof. Tulsi Jayakumar said, “I am pleased to have engaged with passionate voices in the family business space to further the cause of management education specifically designed to foster trans-generational legacies in family businesses. As a pioneer in family business education, it was a privilege to share SPJIMR’s experience on an international platform.”
