Global Immersion at Polimi GSOM, Milan, Italy

November 25, 2025

Batch 37 participants of the Post Graduate Programme in Family Managed Business (PGPFMB) recently completed a ten-day global immersion at Polimi Graduate School of Management, Milan. Designed to broaden the outlook of next-gen leaders, the immersion blended academic depth with real-world exposure to help students understand what it takes to build future-ready family enterprises.

During the programme, participants explored crucial themes shaping modern family-managed businesses — from defining purpose and navigating succession to embracing digital transformation and entrepreneurial thinking. Sessions led by distinguished faculty and global industry practitioners offered rich, international perspectives on the evolving family business landscape. The sessions emphasised contemporary shifts shaping family enterprises, where faculty mentioned ‘innovation is no longer optional for family businesses—it is essential for continuity and competitiveness’.

Students also interacted with Polimi GSOM alumni, gaining first-hand insights into operating businesses in European markets and understanding how global peers are driving innovation within family enterprises.

A highlight of the immersion was the industry visit to Brembo, a 50+-year-old global leader in automobile braking systems. The visit allowed participants to witness cutting-edge R&D and manufacturing processes, reinforcing the programme’s emphasis on experiential learning and global business practices.

SPJIMR’s Postgraduate Programme in Family Managed Business Programme has global immersion as a compulsory component to help participants develop a global mindset while strengthening their ability to scale their family enterprises responsibly and sustainably.
