Family Dynamics session with Mr. Gunjan Saboo

January 8, 2026

Participants of SPJIMR’s Family Managed Business (FMB) programme got a new perspective on communications as they engaged in a thought-provoking session on ‘The Role of Communication in Family Business’ by Mr. Gunjan Saboo, alumnus of FMB batch 2 (Class of 2000). More than a talk, it was a masterclass in how conversations shape continuity, trust, and legacy in family enterprises.

Drawing from lived experience, Mr. Saboo highlighted how vision determines communication—and how different choices demand different conversations. From understanding the nuances of verbal and non-verbal cues, including emojis, to aligning beliefs, values, and long-term vision, participants explored what truly makes communication effective in a family business context.

A key takeaway was deceptively simple: good communication begins with the end in mind. An inspiring yet focused vision, backed by trust, where what you think, say, and do are aligned and create resilience. He emphasised being process-oriented rather than people-oriented, learning to see situations from others’ perspectives, and recognising how ego can quietly derail even the best intentions.

Practical wisdom followed: always plan for contingencies, remain open to change, and when emotions run high, talk in numbers. This was an interaction organised for FMB batch 38 with Alumni Mr. Gunjan Saboo as a part of the alumni interaction for the Family Dynamics session.

These sessions reflect what makes SPJIMR’s FMB programme distinctive, coupled with rigorous learning grounded in real-world relevance. For family business leaders looking to strengthen both relationships and results, this is where meaningful communication begins.
