Abizer Diwanji is EY India’s financial services leader, with a focus on M&A advisory, restructuring, business advisory, and regulatory advisory services. He leads the financial services and restructuring practice nationally. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Abizer has over 28 years of experience in the financial services sector.
He has been involved in more than 150 transactions throughout his career and was among the first to adopt insolvency as a specialisation in 2008. His early work in this area includes the winding down of the Indian entities of Lehman Brothers, the distressed sale of MFG Global to Phillip Capital, and representing bondholders in the restructuring of a major pharmaceutical company.
In 2014, Abizer, along with a few partners, established the debt and restructuring business within EY, aiming to build a robust financial and operational restructuring practice in India.
Abizer has also served on several expert committees for structural reform, including those constituted by the Reserve Bank of India (on secondary debt markets, asset reconstruction, and new bank licensing) and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (on bad banks, cross border insolvencies, and group insolvencies).
