It is crucial to share our knowledge if we aim to nurture future leaders. This principle inspired me to become a mentor for BPCL participants after completing my PGEMP. I empower them to select their capstone projects and offer guidance when needed.
I have mentored almost 20 officers, some with very interesting projects. Some memorable ones are:
The project ‘Develop a production plan to optimally balance the production of non-profitable v/s profitable products to maximise MR revenue and margin’ helped by reducing naphtha production and commensurate higher MS/HSD production, which gave a benefit of around ₹ 100 Cr/annum.
The project ‘Feasibility analysis of advanced process control to maximise operational efficiency and gross refinery margin’ was implemented, resulting in high yields. This was later published as a paperback.
The project ‘Improving distillate yield of BPCL Mumbai Refinery by 0.2%” gave us immense benefits. Net corporate realisation increased by ₹ 42 Cr/month. Diesel production and LPG production increased while furnace oil consumption was reduced resulting in a reduction in one export cargo.
The project ‘To develop an improved process to ensure that high-speed diesel received from Mumbai refinery does not fail the clear appearance test’. By identifying the solution, and putting the requisite principles in the appropriate places, we solved the problem, resulting in a longer asset life of cross-country pipelines, which delighted the customers.
