Beyond the Photograph: Sitaras Turn Images into Stories |
|
|
|
|
At a time when technology can generate stories at the click of a button, the Sitaras of Abhyudaya are being encouraged to do something deeply human: look, wonder and create.
For the Class 9 Sitaras, an ordinary photograph became the starting point for a journey into storytelling. What happened before the moment captured in the image? What might happen next? What could the people in it be thinking or feeling? These questions prompted the students to look beyond what was visible and imagine the stories behind the images.
The result is a photo-elicitation book featuring stories such as Game Over, Two Worlds, One Friendship and Seasons of Sakura. Through these narratives, the Sitaras created characters, conversations, emotions and journeys, turning everyday images into imaginative worlds.
The project gave the students an opportunity to observe closely, think independently and express their ideas, while also experiencing the process of creating a book together — from the first idea to the final page.
Special gratitude to Salil Jayakar Amenta and Professor Sajeev M. Matthews for their thoughtful feedback, patience and continuous encouragement.
For the Sitaras, the photographs were only the beginning. What followed was their own story to tell.

In Q3 2026, SPJIMR's International Relations Office welcomed more than 50 incoming exchange students. That included a week-long immersion for 25 students from Durham University, UK (6–10 July). In the current term, we had 20 international students from IÉSEG, HEC Liège, Luiss and emlyon join for a full term. Earlier in May, SPJIMR was also proud to host 72 Harvard Business School MBA students and 10 HBS alumni for a global leadership collaboration, part of HBS's FIELD Global Capstone course for first-year MBAs.
Next spring, 60 SPJIMR students across all programmes will head to INSEAD for an International Immersion. More than 150 will spend a full semester at 28 accredited business schools such as emlyon, IÉSEG, Kedge, NUCB, ISEG, McMaster, Manchester and Luiss across France, UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Japan.
Capucine Henno, from IÉSEG, France, is currently on exchange at SPJIMR. She said: "From the moment we arrived, the whole class made us feel included — the atmosphere was incredible. Despite the distance between France and India, we share the same humour and the same way of enjoying moments together. My buddy Vaishnavi became a genuine friend and was there for me from start to finish. That friendship is the most beautiful thing I'll take home."
