When professors do art: SPJIMR’s hidden artists unveiled

June 20, 2025

Who says academics can’t be artists?

On June 19–20, 2025, SPJIMR’s faculty lounge was magically transformed from an everyday tea spot into a vibrant art gallery! Our brilliant professors revealed their secret talents, proving they are experts not just in business theories but also in brushstrokes and creativity.

The professor-artists included Profs. Renuka Kamath, Bindu Kulkarni, Aditi Divatia, Sajit Mathews, Tanvi Mankodi, Dhrithi Mahadevan, Shivanee Pethe, Tulsi Jayakumar, Aishvarya, and Nikita Gupta.

From intricate Kerala murals and Pichwai paintings to contemporary Zentangles, charcoal sketches, resin art, portraits and mandalas, to Pattachitra, Mithila and Madhubani art, abstract compositions, glass paintings, terrariums, landscapes and wood art—the faculty showcased an incredible spectrum of artistic expression.

The list of mediums used was just as diverse and creative: colour pencils, acrylic paints, charcoal, resin, fine liners, brush pens, poster colours, and glass paints were all employed to bring these artworks to life.

What began as a few art-loving professors sharing their passion evolved into a celebration that captivated the entire SPJIMR faculty community. Visitors were amazed by the hidden artistic depths of their colleagues and were inspired to try their hand at sketching and painting themselves at the interactive Art Station set up for them.

These remarkable educators proved that they are not defined solely by their brilliant minds, but also by their creative souls—souls that inspire awe and admiration through artistic expression.
