Unstereotype2020 speakers inspire SPIMR through their life stories which broke down societal stereotypes, promoted inclusion, and made a difference!

SPJIMR’s PGMPW programme’s hosted the Unstereotype 2020 event which saw 7 inspiring individuals share their life stories which shattered stereotypes through their sheer determination and will power. The event served to highlight and promote the importance of gender equality and diversity at the workplace and the importance of standing up for your rights and justice to make a difference in society. The powerful stories left a deep mark on the audience and the event was a resounding success.

All the speakers were from different walks of life:

Ms. Veena Gupta, an award-winning security consultant who is passionate about creating a gender-neutral society and champions the cause of women empowerment and safety.

Ms. Sandhya Menon is one of the first and most forceful voices of #MeToo in India.

Ms. Madhavi Latha is Associate Vice President in Trade Services, Standard Chartered Global Business Services Pvt Ltd, a National Level Para Swimmer and the Founder President of Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI). She champions the cause of sports for people with disabilities.

Mr. Jitender Chattar, a farmer who lived in the rural Haryana has broken stereotypes by marrying a gang rape survivor and is fighting for her justice in the courts despite threats from influential, rich and the politically connected.

Ms. Parveen Sheikh, a member of National Slum Dwellers Federation for the past 20 years was born on a footpath and lived most of her life there and has been a crusader for the basic rights of clean water and sanitation for her community. Today, she manages credit and savings activities in her communities and runs a local sanitary pad manufacturing unit which employs uneducated women and trains them to be entrepreneurs.

Mrs. Mittal Patel, a recipient of the Indian President’s 2018 Nari Shakthi Award, began working with nomads and criminal communities since 2005, set up her NGO, Vicharta Samuday Samarathan Manch (VSSM) in 2010, and promotes the causes of Human Rights and Dignity, livelihood training, housing, education, and participatory water management programs.

Ms. Kiran Gera, a Delhi School of Economics alumni, pioneered the cable television industry in the country and set up the first cable TV system in 1986.
