SPJIMR welcomes new batch of PGDM participants (2016-18)
The SPJIMR campus wore a spruced up look on Tuesday (June 7) as a new batch of PGDM participants filled the 300 seater auditorium for an orientation ceremony that marked the beginning of the PGDM Class of 2018, the first batch to be greeted with a new logo, a newly drafted honour code and a revamped approach to SPJIMR's celebrated non classroom learning initiatives.
The inauguration also marked the completion of one year by the Dean, Dr. Ranjan Banerjee, who told participants in his welcome address: "We talk of an interactive two-way learning at SPJIMR and the first thing we need to get is that you are responsible for your learning."
The Dean began by paying his respects to the former Dean, the late Dr. M L Shrikant, who led the Institute for close to three decades. "We are trying to build a castle here. You can walk by that castle and pass comments or you can join the castle and put your shells in it. We are trying to build a world class Institute. This castle is as much yours as it is ours," the Dean said.
Dr. R. Sesha Iyer, Professor and Advisor to the Dean, spoke at length on the idea of growth through contribution and service and the balance between competition and cooperation. He also spoke on the outstanding contribution of the former Dean, Dr. M.L. Shrikant.
“Congratulations on joining the SPJIMR family. The institute has a deep history and is rich in values. We welcome you with the existing initiatives and some new that would apply for your batch to strengthen the program’s curriculum,” said Dr. Vasant Sivaraman, Chairperson PGDM. It was followed by Dr. Vasant Sivaraman giving the participants an insight into the architecture of the two year programme and courses covered in each semester.
Dr. A. B. Kulkarni welcomed the participants and explained what is expected of them in and outside the classroom. The participants were then introduced to the Honour Code and led into an oath taking ceremony.
