May 15, 2017

SPJIMR and the Times Centre for Learning Ltd. (TCLL) Monday (May.15) inaugurated the first batch of the ‘Programme in Strategic Media & Entertainment Management’ (PSMEM). The PSMEM is India’s first holistic programme for strategic management and leadership, which is designed to meet the growing demands for managerial talent in the media and entertainment sector.

The inauguration began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a prayer depicting the importance of a student-teacher relationship.

Mr. Anish Srikrishna, President, Times Centre for Learning Ltd., spoke of the growth of the media industry and its potential for the future. He said, “I am confident today that PSMEM’s combination of SPJIMR’s institutional rigor and the media industry’s real world insights will leave the participants with the necessary heft to navigate the fascinating world of media and entertainment.”

“The M&E industry is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 14.3 per cent to touch Rs. 2.26 trillion by 2020.”

“Amidst all this frenetic growth, Indian media CEOs are also expecting and dealing with serious disruption emerging from digital media. All the industry CEOs on our advisory and academic council are deeply concerned about these issues and you will see this reflected in your curriculum,” he added.

SPJIMR Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee said, “Media has become a very powerful part of the society…it is powerful by what it reports and equally powerful by what it does not cover.”

As the media sector grows, the Dean asked the gathering to reflect on whether the quality of content is getting better or the media was pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Amongst others who attended the inauguration were: Mr. Ambi Parameswaran, Head of the Academic Council of TTCL programme; Mr. CVL Srinivas, CEO, GroupM, South Asia Pacific; Mr. Sandeep Varma, Independent Film Producer; Dr. Ashita Aggarwal, Associate Professor and Area Head – Marketing, SPJIMR.

Dr. Ashita Aggarwal introduced the PSMEM programme architecture to the participants.
