SPJIMR Conducts Its First Ever Online Town Hall

May 18, 2020

240 members of the SPJIMR family – faculty and staff- got together for SPJIMR’s first-ever online town hall on May 18th at 5 pm.

Dean Dr Ranjan Banerjee’s message was one of ‘safety first’. He gave an update on how all academic activities were going on as usual, online and reminded everyone about hope, compassion and togetherness. He spelt out what success meant when it comes to responding to an unprecedented crisis as:

S – Safety first approach for the entire SPJIMR community – The HR department is reaching out to all employees to check and ensure that the institute’s entire community of students, faculty and staff are safe and comfortable. A coronavirus page has been set up on the institute website to give regular updates of the situation including the latest government directives on the matter and posting of links to the faculty articles on Covid-19 which raises awareness in the community.

U – Understanding and looking at the basic needs of the SPJIMR community by ensuring all salaries to every member of the family has been paid on time.

C – Compassion for others – During the lockdown, people are donning various hats at home balancing professional life with family chores. Everyone is missing the campus and the SPJIMR community. The institute has ensured a continuous outreach to its family of students, staff, faculty and alumni through a series of online charchas and webinars which ensures that the SPJIMR family stays together, supports each other and remains connected in these tough times.

C – Continuity – All the programmes and faculty have ensured that students continue to learn by conducting classes remotely. Students are also having online group work and peer learning sessions. Besides, institute recruitments and participant admissions for various programmes are being conducted online through remote video interviews.

E – External Outcome – The institute’s placement team continues to reach out to companies to ensure the best possible recruitment opportunities for all students in tough market conditions.

S – Stakeholder Outreach – The institute’s stakeholders such as the companies it serves, the social sector where it contributes and its alumni are all hurting in times of crisis. The institute is reaching out to them to stay connected and to keep supporting them in this time of crisis.

S – Service to others – The institute is reaching out to those less fortunate and is contributing to the welfare and safety of the larger society. The institute has made contributions to the PM Cares Fund and the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Funds. The coronavirus webpage on the institute website also has many donation links where students, staff and faculty can help out organizations and volunteers who are battling the crisis on the ground.

Following the Dean’s address, the specially constituted Back to Campus committee, led by Head HR Mr Preobroto Ganguly answered all staff and faculty questions and gave an overview of the ‘way forward’ for the institute, post lockdown, keeping in line with government regulations regarding social distancing. Detailed guidelines will be issued to the entire SPJIMR family in due course.

Dr Suranjan Das and Pralhad Poojari joined in from the campus and gave the attendees a glimpse of the SPJIMR lake and fountain. SPJIMR’s famed peacock Dana made an appearance too.
