SPJIMR Annual Convocation 2026: Evening session

SPJIMR’s Annual Convocation 2026, held on May 9, marked a major milestone as nearly 1,000 graduates across nine programmes joined its global alumni community of over 18,000 professionals.

Held across two ceremonies at SPJIMR Mumbai for working professionals and full-time programme participants, the convocation brought together graduates, faculty, alumni, industry leaders, families, and friends in a shared moment of achievement, reflection, and new beginnings.

The ceremonies were presided over by Dean Dr Varun Nagaraj and attended by Chairman of the Governing Council Deepak Parekh.

The morning ceremony featured Zarin Daruwala, Group CEO, PL Capital (Prabhudas Lilladher), former Cluster CEO for India and South Asia at Standard Chartered Bank, and Member of the SPJIMR Governing Council. Encouraging graduates to embrace change and remain adaptable, she reflected on the importance of resilience and self-belief in shaping meaningful careers.

The evening ceremony welcomed Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog, former President of NASSCOM, and an alumna of SPJIMR’s PGDM Class of 1993. Her return to the institution she still calls “home”, more than three decades after graduating, added a personal dimension to the occasion.

.The convocation also marked important milestones across programmes, including the 25th year of the Post Graduate Executive Management Programme (PGEMP) and the graduation of the inaugural cohort of the Post Graduate Diploma in Management Online (PGDM Online).

For 45 years, SPJIMR has remained committed to shaping responsible leaders through academic rigour, socially conscious learning, and a strong belief in management education as a force for positive societal impact.

Abhyudaya

When Outcomes Become Pathways: Abhyudaya Sitaras in 2026

Every academic result tells a story, but some years reveal something deeper: the quiet shaping of futures already in motion.

The 2026 board examinations reflect one such year for the Abhyudaya Sitaras, where outcomes are not just measured in percentages, but in progress, transition, and possibility.

In the HSC (Class 12) examinations, 33 out of 34 students successfully cleared their boards. One student will reappear for three subjects in July, while two others await results from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

But the more telling narrative lies in what follows the results.

Sakib Patel’s admission to Nayanta University marks the beginning of a new academic chapter as he joins its second cohort. As he moves forward, he continues to explore scholarship opportunities that will support his journey into higher education.

For Husna Ansari, the year reflects both distinction and direction. With a score of 95.17%, the highest among Abhyudaya Sitaras to date, she also secured perfect marks in Accountancy and Mathematics at NM College. Her selection for the Vahani Scholarship, alongside her preparation for the Chartered Accountancy examinations, places her at a clear midpoint between ambition and discipline.

Her achievement stands as a marker of what consistency can build over time.

If the HSC narrative is about transition, the SSC story is about breadth.

The Class 10 batch brought together 37 students from 15 schools across the K-West ward, spanning English, Marathi, Hindi, and Urdu mediums. All students cleared their examinations, with the batch recording a class average of 74.28%.

Within this diversity, 19 students from the semi-English stream reflect a particularly layered learning experience. They navigated Science and Mathematics in English while continuing much of their education in their native language.

It is here, in this balance, that resilience becomes palpable.

Across schools, several Sitaras also secured top positions: Mohd. Tahir Amir Shaikh (Madni High School), Jyoti Prasad (D.N. Nagar Municipal English School), Nisha Dhepe (Vidyanidhi School), Purva Powar (St. Catherine School), and Rutuja Satpute (Dnyansagar School).

Across both cohorts, the 2026 results point to something larger than academic outcomes.

They reflect a network of support and goodwill from donors, the SPJIMR library team led by Mr Kumbar, the wider SPJIMR community, PGDM mentors, the Abhyudaya team, and the parents and guardians who remained steady companions in each student’s journey.

Because behind every percentage is a pattern of belief. And behind every milestone, a community that made it possible.

Wise Tech

Breaking the BMD Bias:
Why India’s Startup Hyper-Scale Is Quietly Moving to Bharat

India’s startup story is quietly shifting from metro hubs to “Bharat,” as founders move out of the Bangalore–Mumbai–Delhi (BMD) circuit to Tier-2/3 cities to gain capital efficiency, workforce stability, and deeper proximity to real markets.

This edition of WISE Tech Insights talks that hyper-scale no longer demands a metro address: upgraded regional infrastructure, digital public rails, and reverse migration are enabling high-quality product building from places like Indore and Coimbatore, even as funding architectures struggle to catch up.

It showcases how new incubator networks, programs like WISE Tech India Pitchathon and state-led initiatives are building a decentralized blueprint that challenges the BMD monopoly on innovation.
