Empowering communities: Nehru Nagar Community Centre opens its doors |
On February 24, 2025, Abhyudaya-SPJIMR and Apnalaya hosted an Advocacy Event & Awareness Camp to mark the inauguration of the Nehru Nagar Community Resource Centre in K-West Ward.
The event witnessed the participation of 209 attendees, including community members, staff, and PGDM students from SPJIMR, creating a vibrant platform for engagement and empowerment. The inauguration commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Arati Nagaraj (Director, Abhyudaya), Praveen Singh (CEO, Apnalaya), and Nehru Nagar volunteers, highlighting the power of collective action in driving community change.
During the event, 82 women registered for Stree Mukti Sangathana, a platform aimed at empowering women through skill development and financial independence. Thirty-seven individuals enrolled for E-Shram and Ayushman Bharat health cards, ensuring access to government welfare schemes for unorganized workers and healthcare benefits for eligible families. Eighteen residents updated their Aadhar cards, addressing identity verification and accessibility to essential services. Twenty attendees inquired about general insurance schemes, reflecting a growing interest in financial security within the community. Additionally, 56 individuals benefited from a medical camp conducted by Larsen & Toubro Ltd., receiving essential healthcare consultations and checkups.
The event also featured a cybersecurity and fraud prevention session conducted by Police Inspectors Subhangi & Shweta from Juhu Police Station, equipping attendees with knowledge on staying safe in an increasingly digital world. Prem Raaj (JVI) provided legal rights guidance, empowering residents with information on navigating legal challenges. Additionally, an Indian Constitution Awareness desk engaged participants through interactive learning activities, enhancing their understanding of fundamental rights and civic responsibilities.
The success of the event was made possible through the dedication of SPJIMR PGDM students, who played a key role in community engagement, documentation, and facilitation. The support of partner organizations—including Bright Future, Vipla Foundation, Stree Mukti Sangathana (Family Counseling Centre), and NGO Talent Acquisition – Jan Sahas—was instrumental in ensuring the availability of essential resources and spreading awareness.
