From Indian Boardrooms to Global Classrooms |

Some teaching cases are discussed for a semester. Others continue to shape classroom conversations long after they are written. This year, several authored by SPJIMR faculty have earned a place among the latter.
Eleven SPJIMR faculty members have been recognised in Ivey Publishing’s Bestsellers 2025–2026 and Classics 2016–2026 lists. Published by Ivey Business School at Western University, Canada, these annual rankings recognise the teaching cases most widely adopted by business schools around the world.
The recognition spans disciplines including communications, economics and public policy, entrepreneurship, management science, marketing, strategy, accounting, and international business, highlighting the breadth of SPJIMR’s contribution to case-based management education.
Commenting on the recognition, Prof. Varun Nagaraj, Dean, SPJIMR, said, “Great teaching cases immerse learners in the complexity of decision-making. The global adoption of our cases reflects SPJIMR’s commitment to creating scholarship that is rigorous, relevant, and rooted in real-world challenges.” For alumni, the recognition is more than an academic distinction. It affirms that ideas developed by SPJIMR faculty, many rooted in Indian business contexts, are shaping discussions in management classrooms across the world and reinforcing the institute’s contribution to global management education.

A Dream, A Setback, A White Coat: From Sitara to Doctor |

When Dr. Khan Ishrat Fatima entered medical college, she carried with her more than a dream of becoming a doctor. She carried the hopes of her family, the encouragement of her mentors, and the support of SPJIMR Abhyudaya, where her journey began as a Sitara in Grade 6.
Today, Dr. Fatima has become the first Sitara from SPJIMR Abhyudaya to complete her MBBS, marking a significant milestone in the programme’s journey.
Dr. Fatima completed her schooling at Al-Ittehad Urdu High School and Junior College. As a Sitara, she received academic guidance while also building the confidence, communication skills, and self-belief that helped her pursue bigger goals.
Her journey was shaped by challenges from an early age. She lost her father while she was in Grade 5, after which her mother became her greatest source of strength. Despite difficult circumstances, she ensured that education remained a priority, inspiring Dr. Fatima to persevere and work towards her dream.
After completing Grade 10, Dr. Fatima joined Shaheen Institute, Bidar, to prepare for NEET. She scored 247 marks in her first attempt but refused to let the result define her. Reflecting on that experience, she says, "I did not get discouraged. Instead, I treated it as a stepping stone and continued working with determination and faith." In her second attempt, she secured 519 marks and earned admission to JIIU’s Indian Institute of Medical Science and Research, Jalna.
Throughout medical school, Dr. Fatima remained connected with the Abhyudaya community and credits Director Arati Ma’am, former Directors Rukaiya Joshi Ma’am and Deepa Ma’am, her mentors, and the entire Abhyudaya team for their guidance and encouragement.
Having completed her MBBS, Dr. Fatima will now begin her internship while preparing for NEET-PG. Looking ahead, she says, "My dream is to specialise in General Medicine or Pediatrics and serve society with dedication and compassion." |

The detours were the plan all along
Career journeys are rarely linear. For SPJIMR alumna Reeti Nageshri (PGDM 2015), each transition, from computer engineering and Information Management at SPJIMR to technology, product, marketing, business operations, and her current role in Mahindra’s electric SUV business, has opened new possibilities and helped her build perspectives beyond her original path.
In this reflective piece, Reeti shares how stepping into unfamiliar spaces shaped her thinking, strengthened her capabilities, and influenced her approach to leadership. Drawing parallels between raising twin toddlers and navigating a career across diverse functions, she reflects on the experiences that have taught her the value of curiosity, adaptability, and continuous learning.
For the SPJIMR alumni community, her story is a reminder that careers are not defined by a single decision or destination. They evolve through experiences, transitions, and the willingness to embrace opportunities that may not have been part of the initial plan.
As Reeti writes, SPJIMR gave her “not all the answers, but the confidence to keep learning, adapting and growing.”
