SPJIMR turns 44 years: Looking Back, Moving Forward |
|
|
|
|
In a celebration of legacy, learning, and lasting impact, SPJIMR celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on 17th April,2025 at its Mumbai campus. The event paid tribute to the incredible journey of the institution, its remarkable staff the strong pillars on which it has stood the test of time.
The celebrations featured the MLS Memorial Lecture by Luis Miranda, Co-Founder, of the Indian School of Public Policy, wherein he offered rich insights on purpose driven leadership. This was followed by an address by a retired marketing professor,
Prof. A.B. Kulkarni from SPJIMR, who spoke with warmth and nostalgia about the institute's formative years. Retired staff and long-serving employees whose contributions have shaped the SPJIMR story were specially acknowledged, and the day ended on a high note with a witty performance by the Indian People’s Theatre Association.

SPJIMR receives the ET Now Best Education Brands Award 2025 |

We were recently awarded the ET Now Best Education Brands Award 2025, reaffirming SPJIMR’s commitment to blending innovation, impact, purpose, and performance in education.
Prof. Anshul Verma, Chairperson, Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) accepted the award on behalf of the institute and participated in a panel discussion on ‘Bridging the gap between education and employability’. The discussion focused on the persistent disconnect between academic education and the skills required in the job market. While universities produce millions of graduates annually, many struggle to find meaningful employment due to gaps in practical skills, industry exposure, and alignment with evolving job market needs.

SPandan Reunion 2024 |

On 14th December, 2024, SPandan Reunion – the annual get-together of the institute’s alumni - was held at the Mumbai campus. Organized by the Alumni Relations Office, the event featured an eclectic mix of activities that took the audience down the memory lane.
The invite embraced alumni from all batches and programs from 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 marking their return to celebrate.

Sashakt : Lighting the Spark |

|
The first batch of seven alumni Sitaras has completed Sashakt a program designed to support them on their entrepreneurial journey. It was spearheaded by Prof. Tulsi Jayakumar and well-supported by SPJIMR’s faculty, who provided mentorship throughout.
The Sitaras came from diverse backgrounds some were resin artists, others videographers, and a few even ran pathology lab businesses. After completing the program’s 24 classroom sessions, they made final presentations and were awarded certificates. They are now ready to start or grow their own businesses using what they have learned.
The SPJIMR faculty involved in teaching and mentoring included: Prof. Ganga, Prof. Vidhula Venugopal, Prof. Upamanyu Bhattacharya, Prof. Sapna Malya, Prof. Debmallya Chatterjee, Prof. Shabbir Hussain, Prof. Ashish Desai, Prof. D.M. Damle, Prof. Amit Sharma, Mallika Ramachandran (PGPDM, Class of 2019) and Rolif Cornelio (SYB, Class of 2022).

Student Voices: Responsible Product Management: Shape the Future, Ethically and Sustainably |

The recent edition of WISE Tech Insights features an article on Responsible Product Management. Co-authored by SPJIMR students, it draws on in-depth research to explore the subject and makes a strong case for ethical responsibility and sustainability in product design.
Titled Responsible Product Management: Shape the Future, Ethically and Sustainably, the article introduces practical frameworks like the 3Ps (People, Profit, Planet), supported by real-world examples of brands like Patagonia and Amazon. These companies demonstrate how analytics can be balanced with emotional intelligence, ethical foresight, and inclusive, empathetic design.
This topic is especially relevant today, in a deeply interconnected world where product decisions impact society at large—not just end-user experiences. SPJIMR-INNOVA Europe: A Global Launchpad for Impact-Driven Startups |
|
|
|
|
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, SPJIMR will host INNOVA Europe in India to champion startups driven towards making an impact through their sustainability and social impact endeavours. This makes it the first business school in Asia to enroll in this prestigious global competition.
Top startups from India and Europe will compete in this race for visibility, global recognition, and exciting opportunities. Startups selected from the Indian edition will then get to participate in a high-impact programme, with SPJIMR providing expert mentorship, hands-on workshops, and a pitch showcase.
Finalists who make it to the final round will represent India at the Grand Finale in Berlin in September 2025. They will have the chance to win €20,000 in funding and access to one-year incubation support.
By participating in SPJIMR-INNOVA Europe, start-ups will have a rare opportunity to gain international exposure and network with global entrepreneurs and investors. If you are building an impact-driven startup, this is your moment. |

Sunil Bhatia (PGDM/MMS, Class of 1989), former CEO of Infogain, exemplifies the transformative power of lifelong learning and visionary leadership. From being a student at SPJIMR to scaling a billion-dollar enterprise and receiving the distinguished alumnus award, Sunil’s journey is a masterclass in strategic reinvention.
His decision to pivot Infogain into a platform-based business before the trend caught on led to a 10x valuation growth and a landmark billion-dollar exit. Beyond business, his commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship led to the launch of the Sunil Bhatia Start-up Hub (SBSH), an initiative under SPJIMR’s WISE Tech to boost the start-up economy. Sunil encourages future leaders to "be learning machines in a machine learning age, embrace the long game, and find joy in the journey.

Lifting Hands that Make a Difference
Manohar Kabra (PGDM/MMS, Class of 1984) donated 25 lakhs and pledged a minimum of ₹1 crore over the next four years to support Abhyudaya, starting from the 2024-25 financial year.
Abhyudaya is an organization within SPJIMR that provides holistic after-school education and mentoring to bright and needy children from Mumbai’s K-West ward (Andheri & sourrounding areas). SPJIMR and Abhyudaya are grateful to Manohar Kabra for his generosity, which they believe will significantly impact the lives of the underserved, and help the institute continue its mission of uplifting the needy through education.
