Autumn Project

Introduction

SPJIMR has always proved the effectiveness and uniqueness of its pioneering pedagogic innovations. The industry wide acceptance of its customized cross functional programs and success of DOCC projects bear testimony to this fact. At SPJIMR, we believe that the learning experience must result in the enhancement of practical capabilities of an individual. It was towards achieving this objective that we came up with the concept of Autumn Project. Whilst most B Schools students pursue summer projects at the end of their first year, at SPJIMR, the Autumn Project is undertaken in the second year of the PGDSM-MIT program. This makes it more focussed, facilitates a higher degree of customisation and enables students to draw parallels between management theory and practice by applying the skills acquired in the first year.

The Concept

The 'Autumn' concept, pioneered by SPJIMR, has been well received by the industry and has enabled the institute to build a strong relationship with the corporate community. It is a corporate project carried out as part of the curriculum by students during the months of October & November in the second year. Having completed General management courses of SPJIMR and specialization components offered by Virginia Tech, the participants are in a better position to deal with the situations that the internship opportunity in an organisation presents. The autumn projects are done by the PGDSM-MIT students with the best organizations in the country and have been well appreciated.

Key Objectives

  • To expose the participants to real life organizational situations and enable them to apply their classroom learning to face the live business challenges.
  • To enable the participants to make an informed career choice in terms of company and industry.
  • To enable the participants to customise their curriculum to individual career aspirations in the second year.

Benefits to organisations

  • Improved Student Quality: Candidates rich in maturity and experience gained from exposure to challenging, under-managed and unstructured working environments during their DOCC projects are in a better position to take up live projects with Corporates during the Autumns.

  • Improved contribution towards project: Enhanced academic inputs, concepts & skills imbibed over 4 trimesters ensure improved performance of candidates leading to superior contribution to their Autumns projects.

  • Evaluation of Candidates to facilitate Pre Placement Offers (PPOs): Unique opportunity to evaluate the candidates from a long-term perspective. This is reflected in the large number of PPOs made to Autumn Candidates in the past by highly satisfied organisations.
