Along with regular guest lectures, participants also interact with
industry experts through initiatives like Domain Focus Learning (DFL
week) and Paricharcha.
Domain Focus Learning (DFL) Week
Seven days, seven domains, learning, excitement and vision - some apt
words to best describe the week long knowledge extravaganza called 'Domain
Focus Learning Week' at SPJIMR.
The
objective is to develop managers with well rounded domain knowledge of
various business verticals. DFL week brings together veterans from
various walks of the industry to facilitate domain learning for the students.
This is done so as to ensure the job readiness of the participant so that
he/she is able to hit the ground running when they enter the industry.
The domains that are being covered under the purview of DFL are Banking
and Financial Services (BFS), Insurance, Retail, High End Technology,
Manufacturing, Telecom and Media Entertainment & Travel (MET). DFL
comprises the study of these domains by the participants over a period
of two years under the aegis of experienced faculty mentors. The learning
process includes presentations from participants, a comprehensive thesis,
and weekly class discussions. In each domain, the efforts are focused
on practices like Enterprise Solutions, Infrastructure & Services,
Business Intelligence & Knowledge Management, Customer Relationship
Management, Project Management, and Business Process Consulting.

Five
opinion leaders from leading Consulting and IT Services majors, a hundred
budding young minds, one platform and valuable ideas abound: that's
'PARICHARCHA' - A seamless interaction between participants of SPJIMR
and stalwarts from the industry on 'Strategy for Indian technological
organisations amidst fluctuating currency'.
With speakers ranging from the head of a leading global investment bank,
CFO of CitiGroup Global Services, Managing Director of Atos Origin, CFO
of MindTree Consulting to a Strategic management expert, from the Pamplin
College of Business, USA, the participants of PGDSM-MIT at SP Jain Institute
of Management and Research, Mumbai couldn't have asked for a richer and
more diverse panel.
'Paricharcha', the panel discussion, endeavours to "connect intellect"
and bridge the gap between academia and the corporate world.
The focus of the discussion was on how India Inc. in general and Indian
IT companies in particular, need to exhibit resilience and move north
in the value chain rather than compete on cost arbitrage alone. Questions
from the student body ranged from pegging of currencies, export lobbies
and the RBI intervention to the euphoria over the famous BRIC report.
