‘Vidya vinayam dadaathi'
Knowledge imbibes humility…

Lighting lamps to symbolize knowledge and reciting a reverent prayer invoking the lord, indeed portrayed what SPJIMR truly stands for. Dr. M. L. Shrikant, Hon. Dean SPJIMR who although could not be present in person, made the batch of MIT-04 embark on a journey in a truly traditional way, by rendering a humbling explanation of the words of the prayer which spoke about the relationship between students and teacher.

Dr. Sesha Iyer, Director, SPJIMR and Prof. Sunil Rai, Jt. Director, SPJIMR welcomed the participants into what they called 'The family of SPJIMR'. Prof. Renuka Kamath and Prof. Aditi Divatia threw light on the different programmes conducted at the institute and about the relationship SPJIMR has with institutes abroad including Virginia Tech.

Prof. Shailaja Gogate, the academic co-ordinator for the batch took them through the course content and format. This was followed by a host of sessions by Prof. Mona Nanavati, Prof. Priti Miranda, Prof. Vanita Bhoola, Prof. Nawale, Prof. Jayshri Thampi and Prof. Lakshminarayan, who explained about various other facets of life at SPJIMR such as ADMAP, library facilities, placements, the computer centre etc. An enlightening Q&A session with Prof. Sunil Rai concluded the programme.

After lunch, the participants were taken on a tour of the library. The day ended with distribution of books and issue of I-cards for the participants as they embarked on a new journey with their new identity as an 'Spite.’
